MYTHS
MYTH-1: My reborn or reborn kit has the sculptor’s name on the back of the neck so mu kit is authentic.
This is NOT always true as the factories that are doing the copying are molding from an original kit and leaving the original markings on the neck.
MYTH-2: My kit has a COA so it is authentic.
This is also NOT always true as the factories that are copying are making copies of the COA as well. This is why some sculptors have started adding extra personalized details and marketing to their COA, like hand-signing and numbering each one, logo stamps, embossing, security stickers, etc. This makes it almost impossible for the thieving factories to make exact copies of a COA
FACTS
FACT-1: All sculptors’ creations are automatically copyrighted under the Berne Convention, which protects them in 179 different countries, including China! This means: It is illegal to copy an artists work in any form!
FACT-2: NO sculptor EVER gives permission to a factory to remold and sell their finished kits or finished dolls.
FACT-3: You can’t purchase an authentic doll kit or reborn doll on Amazon, Aliexpress, Temu, Wish, Walmart Marketplace, etc.! While there are LEGITIMATE sellers on platforms like eBay, Etsy and Mercari, you still have to be careful when buying as the counterfeit sellers from other platforms selling there as well. You MUST do your research and ask questions if in doubt so you are not scammed!
FACT-4: Real reborn dolls are ONLY available from reborn artists, NOT a factory or a store.
Artists and collectors alike are always trying to determine where they can buy authentic kits – what websites/shops are legitimate and safe. We highly recommend that artists shop directly from sculptors or at the sites they authorize to sell their sculpts. Below are a number of very reputable vendors where you can be sure that you will receive only authentic kits. Collectors buying kits should do the same, and when seeking artists be sure to shop the OnlyReborns catalogs to ensure that any doll you purchase has been created with an authentic kit! If you choose to buy a kit from a reseller (another artist who previously purchased it), be sure to ask list of questions to ensure that you are getting an authentic kit. Ask for photos and even proof of original purchase from the seller if you are at all concerned (Note: they may be charging more than they paid if the kit is in high demand)
